ADRIAN CHANDLER directs the renowned La Serenissima with Sally Bruce-Payne as soloist mezzo-soprano and the result is quite lovely.
Having delved into Vivaldi many times before, this triptych now takes on, masterfully, the composer's Venetian operatic seasons of 1717 and 1733, with Sally's voice as vibrant and thrilling as ever.
It's an intriguing collection that shows the Red Priest leaping from wide-eyed genius to know-it-all, and in the hands of this renowned period instrument ensemble is orchestrated with fluency and pizzazz.
An intriguing collection.
It is hugely enjoyable.
