With the Taverner Consort and Players, the conductor and scholar Andrew Parrott presents his reconstruction of Bach's funeral music for Prince Leopold, his former patron at Cöthen, first performed by the New York Collegium in 2004. Do not expect something completely new and different. Writing in 1728, Bach evidently drew heavily on the near-contemporaneous "St. Matthew Passion," so most of the tunes - and what tunes! - will be familiar, but the texts will not. A fascinating venture. Avie Records. November.
